Our Inclusive Sex Education Workshop is a nurturing space designed for LGBTQ adults and parents of LGBTQ youth, fostering open and affirming discussions about sexual health, relationships, and identity. Guided by Spectrum’s commitment to inclusivity and respect, this workshop provides a safe environment to explore topics relevant to the diverse experiences within the LGBTQ community. Led by health educator Liz Amaya-Fernandez (they/she), this workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary for fostering supportive, informed, and inclusive environments at home, with their partners, and within the wider LGBTQ community.
In this workshop:
Participants will gain an understanding of the diverse spectrum of sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions, fostering empathy and respect for the multiplicity of experiences within the community.
Participants will understand the importance of enthusiastic and informed consent, and the importance of establishing and communicating boundaries in a variety of contexts.
Participants will receive comprehensive information about reproductive health, including contraception, sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention, and family planning, with an emphasis on inclusivity for LGBTQ individuals.
Attendees will be educated on the diversity of sexual experiences, emphasizing the importance of sexual pleasure, well-being, and self-discovery in a sex-positive and affirming manner.
The workshop will incorporate an intersectional perspective, recognizing how factors such as race, ethnicity, ability, and socioeconomic status intersect with sexuality and impact individuals' experiences.
For parents of LGBTQ youth, the workshop will provide insights and tools for creating supportive and affirming environments, promoting open communication and understanding.
